Cyclist may need helmets

Lawmakers and safety advocates in eight states are pushing for new motorcycle helmet laws in what some experts call a new trend sparked by soaring motorcyclist fatalities and last year’s crash of NFL star Ben Roethlisberger. The effort by lawmakers and state officials to require helmets marks a more controversial approach to motorcycle safety than previous efforts stressing rider training and motorist education.

Modern-Day Troubadour

Holding down a Monday through Friday, nine-to-five job isn’t for everyone. Or, at least, not for Woodrow Landfair.
When he graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in creative writing last year, Landfair decided to take a different path into the working world.
“I read a bunch of books about land travel, had a degree in creative writing and thought ‘Well, this will be my life,’” said Landfair. “‘Ill go on an adventure and spend my life writing stories.’”
After selling all his worldly possessions, including a car a friend gave him, Landfair bought a Suzuki Intruder 800 motorcycle, taught himself how to ride and took off to the eastern part of the country. Up to that point, he had never been on a motorcycle before. He had $3,000 in his pocket, two backpacks filled with clothes, his laptop, a digital camera and a sleeping bag.

Smart fortwo concept trailers prove fortwo will tow the line

In what appears to be way of addressing the lack of trunk space in the new Smart fortwo, DCX has released a few sketches showing the Smart accessorized to appeal to that overly-pursued active lifestyle consumer. The three drawings (two of which are posted after the jump) include the above boat trailer, a motorcycle hauler and a traveling living space; complete with sink, stove, storage and bed. While all are intriguing, Smart doesn’t intend to build these trailers anytime soon. We certainly like the idea, but are a bit worried about getting stuck behind one on our way up to Tahoe.[Source: TCC] .
